The Department of Religious Studies offers the Ph.D. only. The M.A. may be earned during Ph.D. study (see Requirements), but there is no terminal M.A. program.
Applications for the PhD program for 2017-2018 academic year must be submitted electronically by December 31, 2016. Admissions decisions are made exclusively by the Department of Religious Studies, in consultation with faculty from other departments depending on the student's subfield.
Dear prospective students,
From Friday, December 23, 2016 until Tuesday, January 2, 2017, our campus and our offices will be closed. We realize you may have questions about your graduate school application, but you will not be able to be in touch during this time. Please submit your application by the deadline but send your questions to our offices and we promise to read every one on our return and take into consideration your problems if any.
Applicants need not have an undergraduate major or minor in Religion but should arrive with significant background in the proposed field of specialization; they should also have begun significant study of field-appropriate languages.
Campus visits are highly encouraged either before application or at any point in the application process. Admitted students are invited to a recruiting weekend in March, when they will have a chance to meet with current students and both Religious Department and affiliated faculty.
